Arts

The State maintains an Art Events Directory that can be searched by date and category.

Maine Art Scene, an impressive online magazine, offers a statewide calendar of arts-related events.

Maine Public Broadcasting Network also has a community calendar that you can search by category (such as “Art and Museum Exhibits” or “Live Music”).

Biking and Alternate Transportation

The Bicycle Coalition of Maine has a statewide calendar of bike-related events.

Birding and Wildlife Watching

Maine Birding offers upcoming events along with checklists of Maine birds, news updates, and an e-mail list to get word of sightings.

Maine Birding Trail provides a list of birding festivals and a link to the free State of Maine Birding Map and Trail Guide. Group and customized programs are offered by places such as Downeast Nature Tours and Freeport Wild Bird Supply.

The Wendell Gilley Museum in Southwest Harbor offers workshops and demonstrations in bird carving, along with exhibits. The Maine Wildlife Park in Gray offers a diverse array of programs for all ages each year from May through November.

Canoeing

Maine Canoe and Kayak Racing Organization posts upcoming races. Slower-paced events are often offered by land trusts, and watershed groups.

Community Design & Smart Growth

GrowSmart Maine maintains a calendar of public events on which other groups can post notices related to community planning.

Conservation

Maine Coast Heritage Trust offers field trips on many of its preserves. Local land trust trips can be found through the web pages of the individual trusts.

Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy

Efficiency Maine has a calendar listing trainings and workshops related to improving energy efficiency.

Farming and Gardening

Maine Organic Farmer and Gardeners Association has a website calendar and e-mail list with notification of upcoming events.

Sailing/Windjammers and Maritime Events

Maine Built Boats lists boat launches and events related to boat building.

To learn about windjammer opportunities, visit the following two sites: Maine Adventure Sails and the Maine Windjammer Association.

Sailing Lessons are offered through many local yacht clubs and through other organizations like Atlantic Challenge in Rockland and SailMaine in Portland.

Maritime events, children’s programs and more are offered at Maine Maritime Museum, Penobscot Marine Museum, Portland Harbor Museum, and the Maine Lighthouse Museum.

Natural History and Environmental Education

Eagle Hill in Steuben offers natural history seminars and scientific illustration workshops throughout the summer and fall. The Delta Institute of Natural History also offers botanical and herbal workshops.
